Vettisfossen viewpoint

Film: Leif Magne Kinserdal

Have you not yet visited the viewpoint above? Vettisfossen in Utladalen ? The viewpoint is a ramp made of corten steel, placed with a slight overhang over the waterfall gorge to ensure that visitors can see the entire waterfall in all its glory from top to bottom. The location is made with the intention that visitors will not have to climb over the fence and out to the edge of the gorge to get the best view.

The path to and from the viewpoint has also been laid in the terrain to ensure minimal wear and tear, and exposed areas were revegetated in the summer of 2023. We encourage everyone to follow the marked path, and not go outside the fence.

The trip from Årdal starts in the parking lot at Hjelle , where the journey into Utladalen landscape conservation area begins. First you walk on the beautiful country road to Vetti Gard for about 5 km, before turning right to follow the path up the mountainside to the top of the waterfall. You can expect +/- 1 hour for the ascent from Vetti gard to the viewpoint.

Vettisfossen was voted the most beautiful waterfall in Norway a few years ago, and is the highest unregulated waterfall in Northern Europe, with a free fall of 275 meters.
